Camryn Rogers, Hakim McMorris To Represent Cal In Albuquerque

BERKELEY – California track & field may be preparing to start its outdoor season on Saturday, but for two of its top athletes, the indoor season has yet to conclude as the NCAA announced on Tuesday that seniors Camryn Rogers and Hakim McMorris will represent the Golden Bears at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted this year in Albuquerque, N.M., from March 10-11.

Rogers, who will conclude her collegiate career in Albuquerque, currently owns the school record in the weight throw at 24.06m/78-11.25 and has the nation’s fourth-best mark this season at 24.04m/78-10.5. She hopes to finally add an indoor title to her three outdoor NCAA titles, having placed third at last year’s Indoor Championships.

“Camryn is one of the greatest throwers in NCAA history, and this final NCAA Championship will be the culmination of all of the work she’s put in,” said assistant coach Mohamad Saatara, who leads the throws. “We’re going in with a game plan, and we’re going to put our best foot forward. This will be a tight competition – there are a lot of great throwers in the field. Camryn is in great shape after a great season, and we’re going to take the energy from that and from her previous successes at Cal to finish strong.”

McMorris will compete in the NCAA Indoor Championships for the first time in his career. His season-high heptathlon score of 5870, set at the WSU Open on Feb. 2-3, currently ranks second in program history and 12th in the nation this year; he also owns program indoor top 10 marks in the 60m hurdles (7.91, No. 7) and the long jump (7.51m/24-7.75, No. 8).

“Hakim has become a lot more seasoned with everything he does,” said assistant coach Dan Lefever, who oversees the vertical jumps and multi-events. “He’s gained more confidence in himself and his potential.”

Rogers will take to the circle at 3:00 p.m. PT on Friday, March 10, while McMorris begins competition at 8:30 a.m. on that Friday and at 9:30 a.m. the next day.
