Caicedo earns automatic bid into NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships


PULLMAN, Wash. —  Washington State graduate transfer Maribel Caicedo officially qualified for an automatic bid into the 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 60m hurdles with the fourth-fastest time in the nation (7.99).  The NCAA officially unveiled its field of qualifying student-athletes Tuesday night ahead of the 2023 national championships on March 10, 2023. 



The women’s 60m
hurdles national semifinals heats will be held on Fri., March 10, at 3:55 p.m. (PST) with the top eight competitors advancing to the 60m hurdles national final on Sat., March 11, at 3:40 p.m. (PST).  The full indoor championships will be broadcast live on ESPN+. 

 

Caicedo lowered the Cougar program in the hurdles twice in her lone season in Pullman after transferring from UTEP this past summer.  Caicedo produced the first sub-eight second 60m hurdles time in school history during last month’s Don Kirby Elite meet in New Mexico.

Her qualifying time of tied for the fourth fastest time in the country. Per NCAA qualifying standards, her 60m hurdles time was from the Don Kirby was converted to 8.01 due to elevation.  The NCAA Indoor Championships will mark Caicedo’s third return trip to the Albuquerque Convention Center after winning the event at both the UNM Team Open and Don Kirby Elite.
