COLUMBIA, S.C. (Feb. 28, 2023) – For the 18th consecutive season, the South Carolina Cross Country team has been honored with USTFCCCA All-Academic Team honors.
“This recognition is a testament to the hard work that these young ladies put in the classroom each and every day,” stated Cross Country Coach Andrew Allden. “This team is a strong example of what it means to be a student-athlete, putting the role of student first. I would also be remiss if I didn’t credit the hard work that our academic staff puts in at the Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center. They put our student-athletes in the best possible situation to excel in the classroom and be able to call themselves graduates of this prestigious institution by the time they leave.”
South Carolina earned a 3.702 GPA, holding the highest GPA of any women’s cross country team within the SEC. In addition, the Gamecocks ranked 43rd out of 249 total teams that received the recognition.
The team consists of 32 individuals, 18 of which will also compete in both indoor and outdoor track & field. Many of the Gamecocks from the Cross Country program have gone on to post graduate education in high quality professions such as but not limited to: medical school, pharmacy school, dentistry, and many others.
To qualify for All-Academic Distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
