Vilches, Fisher Quality for NCAA Indoor Championships


COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri track and field team seniors Arianna Fisher and Roberto Vilches have qualified for the NCAA Indoor National Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. from March 10-11.

Vilches will be vying for the high jump title for the Missouri men while Fisher will be representing the Tiger women on the national stage in the triple jump.

A three-time NCAA All-American and Missouri’s program record holder, Vilches was named to the All-SEC Second Team on Tuesday as he claimed silver with a mark of 2.21m at the conference championships on Feb. 25. The distance ranks ninth nationally this season.

The Mexico City, Mexico native competed in the high jump on two previous occasions during the current campaign, he cleared 2.16m to finish second at the Don Kirby Elite invitational on Feb. 11 and took seventh with a mark of 2.16m at the Texas Tech Open on Jan. 27.

Vilches notched a fifth-place finish in the event at the national meet a year ago.

Fisher, an All-American herself, posted the nation’s 10th-best mark at 13.46m and took home fifth in the triple jump at the conference championships.

Previously this year, she finished fifth with a distance of 13.19m at the Texas Tech Open and 10th with a mark of 12.73m at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.

The San Jose, Calif. native placed seventh the in the event at the national championships last season.
