Lightning Forces Early Cancellation Of Bears’ First Outdoor Meet

BERKELEY – California track & field will have to wait two more weeks to properly open up its outdoor season, as multiple lightning strikes in the area prompted the cancellation of Saturday’s Cal Opener at Edwards Stadium. The meet will not be made up at a future date.

Only the men’s and women’s hammer throw were able to conclude prior to the cancellation announcement. Sophomores Destiny Okoh and Sara Pettinger took to the circle for Cal, respectively placing first (50.06m/164-3) and second (45.68m/149-10) in the field.

Seniors Camryn Rogers and Hakim McMorris will appear next week at the NCAA Indoor Championships, held from March 10-11 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, while the rest of the Golden Bears are scheduled to appear at the Cardinal Classic on March 18 at Stanford.
