ACC Record-Setters Highlight Field for NCAA Indoor Finals

GREENSBORO, N.C. (theACC.com) – More than 70 Atlantic Coast Conference student-athletes are set to compete in the men’s and women’s 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend.

The championships, hosted by the University of New Mexico, will be held Friday and Saturday (March 10-11) at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The complete list of participants is available here.

ESPN+ will stream the championships live starting at 11:30 a.m. Eastern time Friday, March 10 and starting at 1:30 p.m. Eastern time Saturday, March 11. There will be two re-airs of the meet. The first re-air will take place starting at 6 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, March 12 on ESPNU. The second re-air of the championship will take place starting at 7 p.m. Eastern time Monday, March 13 on ESPNU.

This year’s ACC representatives include three student-athletes who qualified for the Championships by holding the nation’s top time or mark in four events:

Amina Maatoug, Duke – 4:29.87 in the women’s mile
Katelyn Tuohy, NC State – 8:35.20 in the women’s 3,000 meters
Katelyn Tuohy, NC State – 15:15.92 in the women’s 5,000 meters
Jadin O’Brien, Notre Dame – 4,337 points in the women’s pentathlon

Tuohy’s 3,000 meters time stands as the fastest in NCAA history, and she also set the NCAA mark in the mile. Tuohy is not entered in the mile for the NCAA finals but could run that leg for the Wolfpack distance medley relay team, which is one of three ACC representatives in the field for that event.

Several other student-athletes who set ACC records during the 2022-23 indoor season are expected to join Tuohy in Albuquerque – Clemson’s Kiara Grant (7.11 in the 60 meters) and Virginia Tech’s Rebecca Mammel (77-8.75 in the weight throw) on the women’s side, in addition to the Duke women’s DMR team of  Dalia Frias, Megan McGinnis, Lauren Tolbert and Maatoug (10:49.87) at the ACC Championships.

On the men’s side, Florida State’s Ismael Kone matched the ACC men’s 60-meter (6.51) and the North Carolina DMR team of Jesse Hunt, Jared Williams, Kyle Reinheimer and Ethan Strand set a new league mark of 9:19.99 in the final week of the regular season.
