ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Clemson track and field program had five athletes compete on the first day of NCAA Indoor Nationals on Friday in Albuquerque. Kiara Grant, Tarees Rhoden and Giano Roberts all advanced from prelims into the finals and Marie Forbes earned First Team All-American recognition for her personal best and school record weight throw of 22.63 meters. Freshman Wanya McCoy earned Second Team All-American honors.
Kiara Grant – 60 Meter Dash
Kiara Grant advanced to the finals of the 60 meter dash after running a 7.14 in the prelims. Her personal best and ACC record time set earlier this season is 7.11. She will compete in the finals on Saturday at 6:10 p.m.
Marie Forbes – Weight Throw
Marie Forbes shined bright on the biggest stage of her career, throwing a personal best 22.63 meters on her final throw of the season. The mark topped her previous school record of 22.41 meters set two weeks prior at ACC Championships. Her throw was good for sixth place and earned her the recognition of First Team All-American.
Wanya McCoy – 400 Meter Run
ACC Champion Wanya McCoy came within .16 seconds of his personal best n the 400 meter run with a time of 46.07. He finished 14th overall and earned a spot on the All-American second team.
Tarees Rhoden – 800 Meter Run
Tarees Rhoden got out to a blistering start in the 800 meter run and earned an automatic qualification for the finals by finishing in the top-3 of his heat. His time of 1:47.84 sent him through to Saturday’s finals at 9:30 p.m.
Giano Roberts – 60 Meter Hurdles
Giano Roberts advanced to the finals of the 60 meter hurdles on Friday with a time of 7.66 seconds. He finished sixth in the prelims and will compete for a national championship in the event on Saturday at 9:40.
Clemson’s action will begin at 6:10 p.m. when Grant contests the 60 meter dash, and will conclude following the men’s 4×400 meter relay at 10:20 p.m.
