Jordan Geist named West Region Field Athlete of the Year


TUCSON, Ariz. – On Thursday, Arizona Track and Field’s Jordan Geist was named the USTFCCCA West Region Men’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Year.
 
Geist had an incredible indoor season, which was capped off by a victory in the shot put at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He earned the NCAA Champion crown after his toss of 21.15m (69-4.75) in the event. For his performance, he received First Team All-America honors. Additionally, Geist was named an Honorable Mention All-American in the weight throw after competing in the event at the indoor championships as well.
 
Geist went undefeated in shot put competitions against other collegians during the year. In his season debut, he broke the Arizona school record and set a new personal best in the event with a throw of 21.48m (70-5.75). This accomplishment earned him the award of National Athlete of the Week from the USTFCCCA. Additionally, at the USATF Indoor Championships, Geist finished runner-up in the event among a competitive field of professional throwers. Furthermore, Geist also had a successful year in the weight throw, with a personal best mark of 22.24m (72-11.75), and an array of top finishes.
 
This award adds to the long list of accolades that the Pennsylvania native has accumulated during his time at Arizona. The senior heads into the outdoor season as an NCAA Champion, All-American, and now the USTFCCCA West Region Field Athlete of the Year.
