Good Day 1 For T&F AT Bill Webb/Bob Davidson Invitational


HIGH POINT, N.C.—The University of North Carolina track and field program welcomed the start of outdoor season with a strong performance on Friday on the first day of the Bill Webb/Bob Davidson Invitational, hosted by High Point University on Friday at Vert Stadium.

Tar Heel men and women competed in the hammer throw, pole vault and javelin on Friday, with the bulk of the weekend’s action still to come on Saturday.

On the men’s side, James Joycey won the hammer throw with a toss of 64.55 meters, while Roman Mitchell won the javelin at 67.86 meters. Mitchell led four Tar Heels in the javelin top 20, including Patrick Crockett (fourth at 57.55m), Isaach Young (12th at 49.94m) and Max Stakun-Pickering (20th at 41.71m).

Stakun-Pickering led three Tar Heels in the top seven of the pole vault B competition, finishing third at 4.22m. Young was fourth and Bryce Kazmaier was seventh.

Peyton Berryman won the pole vault B on the women’s side at 3.50 meters, with teammate McKenna Brunick right behind her in second place, also at 3.50m. Gracie Bolick led three Tar Heel women in the hammer throw with a 53.70-meter effort.
