Maryland Opens Outdoor Season With Program Record


Orlando, FL – The Maryland track and field squads opened their outdoor season on day one of the Black and Gold Invitational hosted by UCF in Orlando, Florida. 

 

Day one was headlined by Kayla Thorpe’s program record throw in the javelin. Thorpe is expected to continue breaking records in this event this season.

Men’s Notes:

 

  • Eric Albright (3:50.65) opened his season with a seventh place run in the 1500m and a 6 second personal best.

  • Jeff Kline notched his first victory of the outdoor season winning the shot put event. 

  • Rhys Allen opened his season with a top ten result in the discus, throwing 48.96m and taking eighth place.

  • Tyler Baruch (7.14m) took ninth in the long jump after qualifying for finals.

  • Brandon James (21.64) Kevin Collins (22.15) Joe Ewan (22.33) and Brandon Turpin (22.50) competed in the 200m. 

  • Drake Murphy represented the Terps in the 400m hurdles. 

 

Coaches Comments:

“This weekend we are focused on getting our feet back on the ground in the outdoor season and building team momentum.”

 

Next Up:

 

The Terps will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the black and gold invitational at UCF.
