Swanepoel Wins, White Finishes on the Podium on Day One of Outdoor Season

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Wake Forest men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams kicked off outdoor season with multiple top 10 finishes at the 49er Classic (Charlotte) and Bob Webb/Bill Davidson Memorial (High Point) Friday. 

Sophomore Rynard Swanepoel headlined the finishes, as the sophomore clocked a 3:47.85 to win the men’s 1500m at the 49er Invitational. His new personal best helped him finish over three seconds faster than second place.

In High Point, Andrew White followed up his All-American performance last weekend at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a third placed finish in the hammer throw. The graduate student threw a 60.99m, which ranks sixth in program history.

Jacob Goldberg (60.92m) and Jack Pihlkar (57.58m) rounded out the top five in Charlotte. 

Sophie Perez Gonzalez recorded the second-best hammer throw in program history with a 54.88m to finish in fourth.

In total, the Demon Deacons finished Friday with seven top-10 finishes.
