ORLANDO, Fla. — The University of Michigan men’s track and field team closed out the Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday (March 18). Junior Eli Winter led the Wolverines with a win in the hammer throw.

Winter, took the hammer title with a throw of 63.89 meters (209 feet, 7 inches), a career best topping his previous top mark of 63.42 meters (208 feet, 1 inch) set at this meet last year in a second-place finish. Also in the field, freshman Luke Stowasser finished 10th in the high jump, clearing 1.95 meters (6 feet, 4.75 inches).

Four Wolverines competed in the 400 meters, all finishing in the top 20. Dubem Amene was the leader of the pack, finishing second with a time of 46.49 seconds. He was followed by Lawrence Gilliam (eighth, 47.91), Kelston Richmond (15th, 48.79), and Jacob Koerner (17th, 48.97). The race was a 400-meter career best for Richmond.

Next up for the Wolverines will be the Raleigh Relays, Thursday through Saturday (March 23-35) in Raleigh, N.C. The meet is hosted by NC State, and Michigan will travel its distance crew after not competing any distance events this weekend.
