Bulk Of Events Scheduled For Saturday

BERKELEY – Less than a week after its record-breaking performance at the Cardinal Classic, California track & field is headed to San Diego for its second outdoor meet of 2023, taking on representatives from over two dozen other teams (including five Pac-12 Conference opponents) at the Aztec Invitational on March 24-25. Additional Pac-12 schools attending the meet include Arizona State, Oregon, USC, Utah and Washington.
 
The women’s and men’s hammer will take place on Friday starting at 2 p.m., while the next day’s events commence with the women’s long jump at 9 a.m.
 
Senior Amari Turner, the reigning Pac-12 Women’s Field Athlete of the Week, will compete again this weekend after setting a meet record at the Cardinal Classic with her pole vault mark of 4.27m (14-0). She currently ranks second in the nation and No. 2 in program history. Three other Golden Bears also set meet records last weekend and will travel to San Diego with the team: senior Kegan Schroeter (hammer, 69.33m/227-5), junior Jada Hicks (100m hurdles, 13.43) and sophomore David Foster (100m, 10.34).
 
Ten total Bears will make their 2023 outdoor debuts, including three of last year’s NCAA Championships qualifiers in seniors Iffy Joyner, Hakim McMorris and Anna Purchase. In total, this weekend’s competitors have collected 25 outdoor top-10 program marks.
