MSU enters the weekend after a successful indoor campaign that saw the Spartans tally two First-Team All-Americans at the NCAA Indoor Championships in fifth-year pole vaulter Trevor Stephenson and senior multi-event athlete Heath Baldwin. Both Stephenson and Baldwin broke the school records in their respective events during the indoor season. Stephenson was named the Great Lakes Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association at the conclusion of the season, his first time receiving the honor.
The Spartans also return 10 athletes who qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Round during the 2022 outdoor season. On the women’s side, distance athletes Kate Stewart-Barnett, Lauren Freeland and Katie Osika return, while thrower Joshua DeVries, multi-event athlete Ryan Talbot, sprinters Terrence Muex and Noah Sage and 1500m All-American John Petruno return on the men’s side. Baldwin and Stephenson are also 2022 outdoor All-Americans.
Up next, the MSU hosts the annual Spartan Invitational on March 31 and April 1 at Ralph Young Field.
