Alabama Opens Outdoor Season at Bulldog Relays


TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama track and field teams will open the 2023 outdoor Season this weekend in Starkville, Miss., at the Bulldog Relays.

The Crimson Tide opens the weekend meet at the Mike Sanders Track and Field Complex with the men’s discus throw leading off at 3:30 p.m. CT on Friday afternoon.

The Alabama women’s program currently sits in second place of the USTFCCCA Program of the Year Standings – Mid-Year Update after the conclusion of both the cross country and indoor seasons. The men’s program sits at No. 9 in the mid-year standings.

The Meet

  • Alabama’s Barry Evans and DeMarco Lemons will compete on Friday before the remaining Crimson Tide contingent joins the action on Saturday
  • The women are traveling 15 athletes to Starkville, while the men’s travel list is 14 strong
  • In addition to host school and conference foe Mississippi State, Alabama will face Alabama State, Arkansas State, Jackson State, Meridian Community College, Mobile, Samford, SEMO, Stillman College, Tuskegee, UAB, UAPB, West Alabama and William Carey

Last Time Out

  • Alabama is coming off a successful showing at the 2023 NCAA Indoor Championships as both the women’s (tied for seventh) and men’s (ninth) programs finished in the top 10
  • The Crimson Tide had 13 All-America honors and earned 10 podium finishes
  • Hilda Olemomoi (5,000m) and Bobby Colantonio Jr. (weight throw) finished as the national runner-up in their respective events
