RALEIGH, N.C. – The Wake Forest men’s and women’s outdoor track & field teams wrapped up a successful first day of action with a pair of podium finishes Thursday at the Raleigh Relays at the Paul Derr Track and Field Facility.
Carolien Millenaar headlined the action with a gold medal in the women’s 10,000m. The graduate student clocked a 34:20.19 in the last event of day one, marking the eighth-best time in program history. Of note, Caroline Garrett finished the event in sixth with a 34:47.93.
Ashlyn Giles threw a 15.59m in the shot put in the first event of the competition and grabbed a third-place finish. The sophomore improved off her 15.41m mark from last weekend in High Point and now holds the third and fourth best throws in program history.
Amanda Schaare also notched a top-10 finish in the shot put, as the graduate student recorded a 15.01 and finished sixth. It’s the second-consecutive week that Giles and Schaare both finished in the top 10.
On the men’s side, Luke Tewalt clocked a 13:47.04 in the 5000m and collected a 12th-place finish in his first action of outdoor season. It was the fifth-best time in program history as the junior now holds two of the top five marks.
