Track & Field Kicks off Home Outdoor Opener with Weems Baskin – University of South Carolina Athletics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (March 23, 2023) – South Carolina Track & Field will play host to its first of three outdoor home meets, beginning with the Weems Baskin Relays this weekend at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track. The meet will be the only two-day home meet of the outdoor season and will begin on Friday and conclude Saturday afternoon.

Know Before You Go
Sheila and Morris Cregger Track does have a CLEAR BAG POLICY that is in effect. Learn everything you need to know about the Clear Bag Policy by clicking here. There is also a WATER BOTTLE POLICY for all patrons and that is: one clear, plastic disposable water bottle is permitted. No hard, non-clear refillable bottles are allowed inside the facility. Also, for fans in attendance, there is a STRICT no outside food or beverage policy for any and all patrons.

Meet Information
The 2023 Weems Baskin Relays features 35 total teams, including the likes of: Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Marshall, North Carolina A&T, South Carolina State, Troy and Virginia Tech. The two-day meet will begin on Friday with doors opening at 10 a.m. The first event on Friday will be the women’s hammer throw at noon, with the first track event being the women’s 400m at 4 p.m. Saturday doors will open at 8 a.m. with both the track and the field events starting at 10 a.m. The final event will be the coveted 4x400m relays with the women running at 3:50 p.m. and the men running at 4:05 p.m.

On returning home and competing at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track:
“We had a good opening meet in the Bahamas with a lot of personal bests and a couple of Top-10 program marks. The team had a good time and got to showcase what it takes to be a Division I track & field athlete at such a high level. But nothing beats being able to run at home on your own track and sleep in your own beds. We have had a good week of practice and we are excited to compete at our own track against a strong field of competition. The outdoor season is just getting started and we have to build some momentum and keep it rolling.”
