SEATTLE – While the indoor track season provided plenty of thrills for Husky fans, there’s still an entire outdoor season to come. That all starts this weekend as Washington takes a big group down to San Diego for the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State. Friday will have a trio of Huskies in the hammer throw to start, then Saturday all other events will take the stage.

The meet will be streamed live via Runnerspace.com. Friday’s women’s hammer starts at 2 p.m. and the men’s hammer is at 4:30 p.m. both held at UC San Diego. Saturday, at SDSU, field events begin at 9 a.m. and the first track event is at 11 a.m.

There are thirty-four Husky student-athletes heading to San Diego, with all event groups traveling except for the distance runners. The start of outdoors brings several events not featured indoors and with it some 2023 season debuts, as the javelin and discus throwers are set to compete for the first time this weekend. Huskies set to compete for the first time this weekend are Chandler Ault, Natalie Holmer, Kathleen Horn, Jack Olsen, Saydi Orange, Tanya Simora in the javelin, and Elijah Mason and Nolan Such in the discus.

A handful of Husky indoor All-Americans are jumping right back into things at the outdoor opener. Pole vault All-Americans Sara Borton, Nastassja Campbell, and Jacob Englar are all scheduled to jump. Jayden White transitions from the weight to the hammer throw. Cass Elliott moves to the 400m hurdles after setting the 800-meter school record indoors. And multi-event All-Americans Bruno Comin Pescador and Ida Eikeng will each have several events on Saturday, but not a full multi. Daniel Gaik will also have 4×1 and 4×4 relay duty plus the open 400-meters coming off his DMR All-America honor.
