AUSTIN, Texas / STANFORD, Calif. – Ole Miss track & field will split squad this weekend for two of the biggest meets of the outdoor season, with the Rebel long distance runners heading west for the Stanford Invitational (March 31), while a large portion of the remainder of the roster heads to the Lone Star State for the 95th running of the Texas Relays (March 30-April 1).
MEET NOTES
• Fans will be able to watch both meets live, with Longhorn Network carrying the action at the Texas Relays, and FloTrack streaming live from the Stanford Invitational.
• At Stanford, the Rebels will run in both men’s and women’s editions of the 5K and 10K races. Each year the Stanford Invite ends up proving crucial for regional qualifying times. Last year alone it produced 73 times among the men’s and women’s 5K and 10K races that ranked within the top-48 of the East and West regions.
• At Texas, the Rebels will be among the best in the nation getting a feel for the site of the upcoming 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships due back in Austin on June 7-10. The No. 8 Ole Miss women will be among 13 squads ranked within the top-25, as well as 28 total among both men’s and women’s competition.
• All-time at the Texas Relays, Ole Miss has won eight total titles — seven from the men and one from the Rebel women (Haley Cutright, 3000-meter steeplechase, 2013). Winners for the Rebel men are the 2014 distance medley relay, Ricky Robertson in the high jump in 2014, Olympian Sam Kendricks in the pole vault in both 2013 and 2014 (invite), Olympian Antwon Hicks in the 110-meter hurdles in 2003, and Olympian Savante’ Stringfellow in the long jump in both 2000 and 2001.
• Ole Miss will see 15 individual outdoor debuts this weekend — all distance runners — as well as the outdoor debut of the men’s 4×100-meter relay, the men’s 4×800-meter relay, All-American senior McKenzie Long’s 100-meter open, and Chase Rose’s first 3000-meter steeplechase of the season.
• Ole Miss is coming off its first home meet of the season last week at the Ole Miss Classic, where the Rebels snagged 14 total event titles and received a U.S. and NCAA lead in the shot put from Jalani Davis in her outdoor opener.
