Bears Post 1 Podium Finish, 2 Personal Bests

AUSTIN, Texas– For the first time in eight years, California track & field made an appearance at the Texas Relays as seven of the Golden Bears’ top athletes kicked off a three-day stretch of competition on Thursday.
 
Senior Amari Turner finished third in the women’s pole vault with a mark of 4.00m (13-1.5), while freshman Ali Sahaida tied for 11th place at 3.85m (12-7.5). Senior Skyler Magula led the Bears’ contingent in the men’s pole vault with a sixth-place leap of 5.31m (17-5), ahead of sophomore Tyler Burns’ eighth-place tie at 5.16m (16-11).
 
In the women’s 400m hurdles, sophomore Jordyn Grady ran a personal-best time for the third straight week, crossing the finish line in 1:00.65 to win her heat and taking 10th place out of 79 competitors; freshman Loreal Wilson posted a time of 1:02.56 in the same event. Sophomore Di’Niko Bates posted a PR of his own in the men’s race at 53.18 to finish second in his heat and ninth overall out of 54.
 
The majority of the Bears’ competitors in Austin will compete on Friday, while another part of the squad will head south to The Farm for day one of the Stanford Invitational.
