Elliott, Birchman Gain Speed At Texas Relays

Weekend Preview

SEATTLE –

Hurdlers Cass Elliott and Jonathan Birchman started off a busy weekend of Husky track action with great runs at the Texas Relays in Austin. Elliott, an NCAA semifinalist the past two years in the event, posted a career-best time to advance to Friday’s final.

The majority of the Husky competition this weekend will take place at Stanford, but Elliott will have another race tomorrow in Austin. He came in with the top time in the NCAA early in the season, and improved upon that with a time of 50.05. That was the fourth-fastest time in today’s prelims, and two-hundredths faster than his old PR of 50.07 from the 2021 season.

While Elliott was .02 under his PR, Birchman was just .01 away from matching his career-best. He was 11th overall in the prelims today in 51.03, which will certainly be an NCAA Prelims qualifier.

Elliott will race in the final on Friday at 3:40 p.m. Pacific time, airing on the Longhorn Network.
