Track & Field to Compete at Florida Relays – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech track and field hits the road again this week with competition at the Florida Relays from Friday, March 31 to Saturday, April 1 in Gainesville, Fla.

Last time out, the Jackets had many top performers at the Florida State and Raleigh Relays. Two specific standouts were Cameron O’Neal and Jamir Gibson. After winning the long jump and recording the second-best mark in the NCAA, O’Neal was named the ACC Men’s Field Performer of the Week. Gibson broke another school record with his third-place throw in the men’s discus.

In the NCAA, many Jackets rank in the top 50 in their respective events. In the top 10 of the men’s long jump and triple jump, O’Neal ranks second and John Watkins ranked 10th. Gibson sits at  No. 15 in the men’s discus and No. 29 in the men’s shot put. Zach Jaeger made it to No. 13 in the men’s 3000m steeplechase after his performance last weekend.

At the Raleigh Relays, three women ran top times in the distance events. Helena Lindsay ranks sixth in the 3000m steeplechase, Liz Galarza is 16th in the 10,000 meters and Mary Brady ranks 28th in the 5,000 meters. In her first competition of the outdoor season, Shanty Papakosta recorded a mark in the women’s high jump that 29th in the NCAA.

In the first regional rankings of the season, the men’s team is seventh in the south region while the women sit at No. 11.
