Brooks Blazes Track With All-Conditions World Lead

AUSTIN, Texas — Running with a 6.8 m/s tailwind, Tennessee graduate student Devon Brooks clocked an all-conditions world leading time in the men’s 110-meter hurdles Friday morning with a mark of 13.21 seconds. His mark was the fastest in prelims at the Texas Relays, automatically booking his trip to Saturday’s final at Mike A. Myers Stadium.

According to the USTFCCCA’s all-time list, Brooks’ time in the 110-meter hurdles tied the ninth-fastest wind-aided mark in collegiate history, and the McDonough, Georgia, native turned in the fastest all-conditions time in the month of March in NCAA history.

Due to the high wind reading, Brooks’ mark does not count towards postseason qualification or for record purposes which was a common theme throughout the day in Austin. Ten of Tennessee’s performances on Friday were recorded above the allowable wind threshold of 2.0 m/s.

Making his outdoor collegiate debut, redshirt freshman Leonard Mustari joined Brooks among the qualifiers for Saturday’s 110-meter hurdles final, running a wind-aided time of 13.53 to finish eighth in the field. The Volunteer duo will line up for the final on Saturday at approximately 3:40 p.m. ET.

Three Vols took part in the 400-meter hurdles final Friday evening and finished 4-5-6 with junior Jakwan Hale leading the way in a personal-best 50.30 to move to No. 4 on UT’s all-time list. Freshman Clement Ducos and redshirt junior Rasheeme Griffith followed up with times of 50.45 and 50.49 to place fifth and sixth, respectively.

The Tennessee quartet of T’Mars McCallum, Emmanuel Bynum, Nigel Green and Javonte Harding advanced past prelims in the 4×100-meter relay Friday morning, clocking a time of 39.67 to finish sixth overall. The group will come back for Saturday’s final at 2:30 p.m. ET.

Competing less than 20 miles from her hometown of Pflugerville, Texas, freshman jumper Suzan Ogunleye made her collegiate outdoor debut in the triple jump with a wind-aided mark of 12.67m (41-7) to place 12th in the meet’s B section. Her best wind-legal jump came on her fourth attempt with a leap of 12.42m (40-9) which was just two centimeters shy of cracking the all-time Lady Vol top 10 outdoor list.
