Cougars wrap up three-meet weekend on the road


SAN MARCOS, Texas/ STANFORD, Calif– The Washington State University men’s and women’s track and field team wrapped up competition Saturday between three meets in two states; The Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field, The Bobcat Invitational hosted by Texas State, and the Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. 
 
The Cougar set six top 10 marks, 14 PRs and five podium finishes during the three meets over the course of this week. 
 
Bobcat Invitational Recap 
The women’s 400m hurdles event highlighted the weekend’s performances in San Marcos, Texas as Mackenzie Fletcher and Jada Van Staden took first and third place respectively. Van Staden notched a PR (1:01.33) while Fletcher brought home a season-best time (1:00.47). 
 
 Elise Unruh-Thomas and Jasneet Nijjar also found success in the women’s 200m as they both posted personal best numbers crossing the finish line seventh (23.73) and 17th (23.99). 
 
Stanford Invitational  
Alaina Stone Boggs highlighted the success at this weekend in California as she now ranks as the fourth-fastest 5,000m runner in program history after posting the fastest time in the Pac-12 this season at 16:14.77. Teammate Cristina Molteni finished just seconds behind her teammate in Friday’s women’s 5k to move into eighth all-time at 16:24.13.  
 
Nana Gyedu’s performance in the women’s shot put stood out amongst the Cougar throwers as she launched a personal best throw of 15.41m in Friday’s finals to move up to fourth all-time in program history. 
 
Ronald Grueso Mosqquera moved up the all-time shot put ranks for the second time this season with a massive throw of 19.16m (3rd place finish), 5th all-time in WSU history passing Bruce Anderson from 1986. Going into Saturday, the 19.16 throw would have ranked as the No. 6 mark in the country and first in the Pac-12. 
 
Texas Relays Recap 
The Cougars posted the fourth-fastest time in both the men’s and women’s 100m dash in Austin, Texas. Freshman Louie Hinchliffe ran a 10.23 in Friday’s men’s timed finals while Elise Unruh-Thomas hit fourth on the women’s all-time list at 11.57 to take seventh in the women’s timed finals. 
 
Lee Walburn notched PR’s in both the 100m (11.01) and 110m hurdles (15.33) on the second day of the men’s decathlon to finish with an event PR 7,322 points to place fifth in his WSU decathlon debut.
