SAN DIEGO – Senior Elijah Mason got a long-awaited PR tonight in the discus, as he broke the 200-foot mark for the first time in his decorated career at the Triton Invitational in San Diego. The three-time All-American and two-time Pac-12 Champion had thrown 199-feet in 2019 and 2021, then went 201-feet, 7-inches today to move up to No. 6 in the NCAA.
Mason’s effort was the big highlight as the Husky throwers finished their second full competition of the outdoor season. It wasn’t the only PR in the discus, as Nolan Such also went a few inches beyond his previous best, throwing 173-10.
More big marks came from MaKayla Kelby and Kaia Tupu-South in the women’s shot put. Kelby had an outdoor season-best of 55-7 ½ just a couple inches off her own school record, while Tupu-South threw 53-7 ¾, improving her No. 3 mark in school history.
Both the men’s and women’s javelins were held today. Chandler Ault and Jack Olsen were the top two collegiate finishers on the men’s side. Ault went 220-10 today after opening at 232-feet two weeks ago, while Olsen had a season-best of 200-1.
On the women’s side, Tanya Simora led the way for the second meet in a row. She threw 142-3. Natalie Holmer had a best of 132-0, while freshman Saydi Orange had three fouls.
