TUCSON, Ariz. – On Tuesday, the Arizona men’s 4x100m relay team of Trayvion White-Austin, Brian Limage, Carl Hicks, and James Onanubosi was named the Pac-12 Men’s Track Athletes of the Week after a season-best performance at the Jim Click Shootout.
The team gained the honors after running a season-best time of 39.15 to win the relay in a tightly contested race and finish against Minnesota and Nebraska on Saturday. That time puts the Arizona squad third all-time in school history and is also currently the eighth-best time in the nation as well. The team has its sights set on the school record in the event, which is 38.89 and has been in the record books since 1990.
White-Austin started the race out fast for the Wildcats, then handed off the baton to Limage to run the backstretch. He then passed it off to Hicks who ran the turn and put Arizona in a great position going into the final leg. Onanubosi finished strong with a last kick that held off the looming Minnesota competitor.
White-Austin, a senior and Tucson native, also placed third in the 100m and 200m at the weekend’s competition. Additionally, freshman Limage, who’s from Orlando, clocked personal best times in both the 200m and 400m on the day. Sophomore Hicks also won the 400m with a personal best time for the second straight week. The Baltimore native clocked a time that moved him up to eighth all-time in school history. Finally, Onanubosi, also a freshman from Nampa, Idaho, finished fourth behind White-Austin in both the 100m and 200m. He clocked big personal bests in each event. White-Austin and Hicks also ended the night running on the 4x400m relay team, which placed second.
The 4x100m squad will get another opportunity to chase the longstanding school record in the relay this weekend at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., on Thursday through Saturday.
