GAINESVILLE, FLA.—For the second consecutive year, Tar Heel Madison Wiltrout starred in the javelin against one of the top fields of competitors in the nation at the Tom Jones Memorial.
The Tar Heels competed in four events on Friday at the meet hosted by the University of Florida, including the women’s hammer, women’s 1,500-meter run, women’s javelin and men’s javelin.
Wiltrout, who won the javelin at this meet a year ago, did so again on Friday with a 54.74-meter effort that won the college javelin competition. Teammate Cash Rodriguez finished seventh at 45.74 meters.
Tar Heel women Carlee Hansen and Taryn Parks both turned in season-best efforts in the 1,500 meters. Hansen finished fourth in 4:16.19, while Parks was seventh in 4:20.57.
In the women’s hammer, Emma Vasen had a season-best throw of 56.65 meters to lead two Tar Heel finalists and finish sixth. Gracie Bolick was 14th at 50.07 meters.
On the men’s side, Roman Mitchell and Patrick Crockett both competed in the javelin. Mitchell took sixth place with a throw of 63.77 meters and Crockett was 13th at 51.53m.
The Tar Heels will conclude competition at the Tom Jones Memorial on Saturday. UNC also will send a contingent to the Virginia Grand Prix on Saturday in Charlottesville, Va.
