Eilish McColgan hopes to make an eagerly-awaited marathon debut this weekend at the TCS London Marathon.

And there are medals up for grabs in the Scottish Marathon Championships which will be allocated via results from the London race.

It’s a busy weekend with 24 young Scots involved in the Mini Marathon event, too, and which now takes place on the Saturday morning prior to the main event on Sunday.

The elite entries for London show potential Scottish championship medallists in Eilish and Olympian Steph Davis and, in the men’s race, Weynay Ghebresilasie, Luke Caldwell, Adam Craig and Fraser Stewart.

Commonwealth Games silver medallist, Sean Frame, will compete in the elite Wheelchair Marathon – only a few days after racing in Boston.

Unfortunately, Eilish does have an injury niggle and on Thursday night spoke about making a late decision on whether to race.

‘I know for sure I can run a good 5k, a good 10k and a good half marathon – the question is can I run a good marathon,’ Eilish had told the Sunday Herald previously.

‘It is something I’ve never done before and the first one is about getting experience of running a marathon.

‘I am certainly in a better place now to run one than ever before and I have given myself the best opportunity to get a good time. But there are a lot of things that can happen on the day both on the mental side of it and the physical side.’

Steph Davis has a PB of 2:27.16 while the Scottish Record is held by Steph Twell at 2:26.40.

Eilish currently holds three Scottish outdoor records at 5000m, 10,000m and 3000m steeplechase as well as the Scottish Best at Half Marathon.

Shettleston’s Weynay Ghebresilasie was the best British performer at the TCS London Marathon last October when he clocked 2:11.57. The Scottish Record set by Callum Hawkins in London in 2019 is at2:08.14.
