LYNCHBURG, VA.—Men’s throwers and distance runners represented UNC as Carolina’s track and field teams completed their 2023 regular season on Wednesday at the Liberty Twilight Qualifier.
It was the final regular season meet of the 2023 season for the Tar Heels, who will compete at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship on May 11-13 in Raleigh, N.C.
Sully Shelton led four Tar Heel finishers in the men’s 1,500-meter run, finishing eighth in 3:48.60. Michael Spragley (13th in 3:50.33) and Jason Thomson (15th in 3:50.69) also finished in the 1,500 for Carolina.
Tyler Mayerhoffer took eighth place in the discus at 49.79 meters, followed closely behind by Brayden Radhuber in ninth at 48.72m.
Ty Castro was sixth in the hammer throw at 47.05m, followed by Radhuber in ninth at 46.91m.
Roman Mitchell took third place in the javelin at 55.89m with Patrick Crockett finishing sixth at 53.38m.
Participating schools other than Carolina included Appalachian State, Bluefield State, CCBC Catonsville, Charlotte, Eastern Kentucky, Ferrum, Hagerstown CC, High Point, James Madison, Liberty, Louisburg, Lynchburg, Methodist, Montreat, Morehead State, Mountain Gateway CC, NC State, Patrick & Henry CC, Pfeiffer, Radford, Randolph, Regent, Southern Virginia, Virginia Tech, VMI, Washington & Lee and West Virginia Tech.
