This Saturday several American distance running legends will gather in Redding for the 10th annual Redding Road Race Expo. Patti Dillon, Bill Rodgers, Amby Burfoot and Joan Benoit Samuelson will gather to share their experiences and sign autographs for their fans.

The 10th and last Redding Road Race will take place on Sunday May 6th but packet pick-up will take place on Saturday from noon to 5 pm at Hoyt Camp (3 Marchant Rd).

During the packet pick up, there will be plenty of activities for people to make an afternoon of it. The following “legends” will be in attendance to sign autographs, tell stories and go for an easy run.

Bill Rodgers is an American runner, Olympian, and former record holder in the marathon. Rodgers is best known for his four victories in both the Boston Marathon, including three straight from 1978 to 1980, and 4 straight wins in the New York City Marathon, between 1976 and 1979.

Amby Burfoot is a former American marathoner whose peak competitive years came in the late 1960s and early 1970s. He was the winner of the 1968 Boston Marathon. After retiring from competition, he became a running journalist and author. He is also the uncle of current Hall track and field coach Jeff Billing.

Patti Catalano Dillon was one of the most dominating American female road runners of the 1970s. She has held the World Record in the marathon and American road records in the marathon, half marathon, 30 kilometers, 15 kilometers, 10 miles, and 5 mile distances.

Joan Benoit Samuelson was the first women’s Olympic Games marathon champion, winning the gold medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. She held the fastest time for an American woman at the Chicago Marathon for 32 years after winning the race in 1985.

Rodgers, Burfoot and Catalano should be there from around 1:30 – 4:00 with Benoit Samuelson arriving around 4pm

At 3:00pm there will be a 5k Legends Run. This is a free casual shakeout run with the legends of the sport and no one will get left behind.

At 5:00pm – 6:30pm there will be a Boy Scouts Pasta Dinner for $15 with entertainment.

Make sure to bring a blanket or chairs to sit on and the beverage of your choice.
