U20 World No. 1 High Jumper Grant Campbell Signs With Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee head coach and director of track & field Duane Ross announced Friday that high jumper Grant Campbell has been added to the program’s 2023 signing class. The high school senior recently competed at UT’s Tom Black Track and turned heads with a world class performance inside the orange and Smokey Grey oval on Rocky Top.

A local talent from Heritage High School in Maryville, Campbell is the No. 1 ranked U-20 high jumper in the world this season with a clearance of 7-3.25 (2.22m) at the Volunteer Track Classic on April 29. His mark established the Tennessee high school state record in the high jump and tops the World Athletics leaderboards at the U-20 and U-18 levels.

“What an outstanding athlete and person, and from right here in our own hometown,” Ross said of his latest addition. “Grant has been a Vol his entire life, it’s only fitting that now he’ll compete for the Vols. He has an unbelievable future to look forward to, and we’re excited to be a part of it.”

Campbell’s mark of 2.22 meters is currently tied for 18th on the 2023 outdoor world list, and his top performance would rank No. 5 on Tennessee’s all-time list and No. 3 in the NCAA this season.

The two-time state champion joins Tennessee’s class of 55 signees between the track & field and cross country programs as the Big Orange builds a collegiate powerhouse. The group features high school and transfer prospects that have collected dozens of All-America certificates, national titles and state championships during their respective careers.
