Track and Field Readies for Pac-12 Championships


LOS ANGELES – UCLA Track & Field returns to Walnut, Calif., this weekend for the 2023 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. The Bruins competed at the 2023 Mt. SAC Relays in mid-April during the regular season, and they will now head back to Hilmer Lodge Stadium for the conference postseason competition.
 

The three-day track & field meet opens on Friday, May 12, with various single-event live streams and broadcasts taking place throughout the weekend before an extended live show of finals on Sunday. Pac-12 Networks’ coverage opens with the men’s hammer competition at 2:30 p.m. PT on Friday, May 12. Champion teams will be crowned on Sunday’s broadcast, scheduled to open at 1 p.m. PT with the men’s 4x100m relay final. 
 
UCLA’s Top Performers
 
The Bruins have some of the top performers in the Conference, competing at an elite level in sprints, distance and various field events. UCLA’s men’s 4x400m relay ranks first in the Pac-12 after recording a 2:59.25 at the 2023 Texas Relays. The Bruins hold the third, fourth, seventh and eighth fastest 400m times in the Conference this season.
 
The women’s 4x400m relay is also a top-tier squad in the Pac-12, currently sitting second on the Pac-12 outdoor performance list.
 
Ronan McMahon-Staggs (2nd, 3:39.32) and Mia Barnett (3rd, 4:10.23) boast top three finishes in the 1500m race. Peter Herold also sits third in the Pac-12 in the 3000m steeplechase, posting an 8:49.74 this year. Emma Tavella is top 10 in the women’s 3000m steeplechase after running a 10:17.93 during the 2023 outdoor season.
 
The Bruins have three hurdlers in the top five of their respective events; Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck is fifth in the women’s 100m hurdles with her 13.18, Jadyn Marshall is fifth in the men’s 110m hurdles, and Yan Vazquez (51.29) is currently fourth in the men’s 400m hurdles.
 
Jalyn Jackson leads the way for UCLA’s jumpers, holding the league’s third-best mark in the long jump (7.68m, 25-02.50) and top mark in the triple jump (15.59m, 51-01.75). Aaron Kim’s mark of 2.11m (6-11) from the 2023 Chris Rinne Twilight is third in the Pac-12 too.
 
The throwers boast the Conference’s top women’s javelin mark this year; Federica Botter sits first in the Pac-12 with her program-best mark of 53.57m (174-09). Natalie Ramirez’s mark of 16.95m…
