Gorlova claims ACC Outdoor Championship in triple jump


RALEIGH, N.C. – Two-time ACC indoor champion Victoria Gorlova won her first outdoor triple jump title for Virginia Tech on Day Two of the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Raleigh, N.C. jumping 43′ 5″ (13.23m). 
 
Gorlova won the event with the mark of 43′ 5″ (13.23m) attained on her final jump of the day. Cierra Pyles finished second jumping 42′ 11″ (13.08m). The women’s first and second place scores add 18 points to the women’s team holding the lead from day one with a total of 69.5 points, the men are in fifth with 33.5 points.
 
Throws 
Senior Tyson Jones finished second in the men’s shot put with a season-best distance of 61’1.50″ (18.63m). Jones’ mark moves him up to 16th in the East Region. 

The Hokie win placed two in women’s shot put top five as Essence Henderson and Katrin Brzyszkowska finished third and fifth. Henderson led the team putting a distance of 55′ 2″ (16.81m), Brzyszkowska attained a mark of 54′ 2.75″ (16.53m).

 

Sprints 

Judson Lincoln IV secured a spot in the 400-meters running the fastest time of the day 45.57 in the prelims, personal-best time. In the 100-meters prelims, Cole Beck tied his season-best time of 10.14 finishing first overall in a field of 28 athletes.

 

Barbora Malikova is seed seventh in the 400m finals clocking a time of 53.02 in the prelims. 

 

Distance

Nick Plant and Ben Nagel are seeded first and second in the men’s 800m final on Saturday as both won their prelim heats. Plant clocked a personal-best time of 1:47.18 taking over the race in final 50m of heat one. Ben Nagel clinched the win at the finish line in heat two clocking a personal-best time of 1:47.53.

 

Lindsey Butler and Star Price earned automatic spots in the women’s 800m finals crossing the finish line first in each of their heats. Butler advances to finals clocking a time of 2:04.94, second fastest time overall. Price is seeded third winning heat one of the prelims with a time of 2:05.04.

 

Schedule Change

Due to the likelihood of increasing thunderstorms and lightning later in the evening on Saturday, the schedule for the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships’ final session at NC State’s Paul Derr Track has been changed.

 

The first field events will begin on Saturday at noon – two hours earlier than originally scheduled – with running events now set to begin at 3 p.m.
