Women Fifth, Men Eighth to Wrap Pac-12 Championships


WALNUT, Calif. – UCLA Track & Field capped competition at the 2023 Pac-12 Track & Field Championships with a pair of second-place finishes in the 4x400m relays in the final two events at the Conference meet.
 
Overall, the women claimed fifth place with 61.50 points scored over the three-day meet hosted by Mt. San Antonio College. The men placed eighth, earning 54 points at Hilmer Lodge Stadium throughout the weekend.
 
Women’s Track & Field Point Scorers
 
The 4x100m relay were the first to score for the UCLA women; Naomi Johnson, Makenzy Pierre-Webster, Aly Conyers and Maddy Doane combined to run a 44.90 in the event, placing sixth and earning three points. Mia Barnett added three points of her own in the 1500m race, running a 4:13.33 in the championship event.
 
Yanla Ndjip-Nyemeck and Jada Jones finished next to each other in the 100m hurdles, combining for five points for the Bruins.
 
Lyvante Su’emai and Natalie Ramirez placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the discus event to add six points to UCLA’s total.
 
Conyers placed in her second of three events on the day when she ran the 400m; she earned two points for UCLA with her 52.19 in the race. Johnson followed it up to score points in her second event, running an 11.54 for three points in the 100m dash.
 
Conyers and Johnson teamed up with Pierre-Webster and Kate Jendrezak in the 4x400m relay, the final event in Sunday’s Championships. The squad ran a combined 3:33.66 to claim second place in the event; Johnson ran down Stanford’s anchor to pass The Cardinal relay team in the last 100 meters of the race.
 
Men’s Track & Field Point Scorers
 
Aidan Elbettar started things off for the Bruins in the men’s discus event, recording a mark of 56.49m (185-04) in the competition to earn a point for UCLA. Jelaani Davis added three points for his 14.86m jump in the men’s triple jump.
 
The men’s 4x100m relay earned four points with their finish at the Championships; the relay team consisted of Kaden Reynolds, Antonie Nortje, Myles Misener-Daley and John Robinson IV. Robinson IV later added a point for UCLA in the 200m dash, running a 21.15 in the race. Misener-Daley captured four more points in the 400m
 
Cameron Reynolds (45.37) and Willington Wright (45.82) combined for three more points in the 400m race.
