ACC Track & Field Athletes Turn Attention to NCAA East Prelims

• More than 300 ACC student-athletes earned spots in the NCAA Division I East Preliminary, which will be held May 24-27 in Jacksonville, Florida.  Sacramento, California, will be the site of the West Preliminary. The qualifiers out of these two regions will compete in the NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which are held from June 7-10 in Austin, Texas.  • ACC men’s champion holds a No. 13 ranking to lead all ACC teams in the latest USTFCCCA Track & Field Ratings Index. Florida State is at No. 14, followed by No. 17 Louisville and No. 23 Virginia. Those teams were separated by a total of 2.5 points in the finals of last weekend’s ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by NC State.

• The Notre Dame women are at No. 23 the latest USTFCCCA rankings, followed by NC State at No. 25.

 

 • NC State junior Katelyn Tuohy remains on the women’s watch list for The Bowerman, presented annually to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation. Tuohy earlier this month set the NCAA outdoor record for the women’s 5000m at the Sound Running On Track Fest in California with a time of 15:03.12.  Tuohy broke her own ACC record, which she set last season prior to claiming the NCAA gold medal in the event. Her current time ranks first in the country and is over 17 seconds faster than the 2023 second-place mark. Tuohy also holds the nation’s No. 1 time in the 1500 at 4:08.29.

  

• Tuohy is joined in ranking among the nation’s top five in at least one women’s event by Virginia’s Margot Appleton (third in the 1500 at 4:08.96), Notre Dame’s Olivia Markezich (fifth in the 3000 steeplechase at 9:40.65), Virginia Tech’s Kenna Stimmel (fifth in the pole vault at 4.45m/14-7.25), Florida State’s Caisa-Marie Lindfors (60.80m/199-6), North Carolina’s Madison Wiltrout (58.51m/191-11 in the javelin) and Notre Dame’s Jadin O’Brien (fifth in the heptathlon with 5,942 points).
