Hokies declare 33 for NCAA East Regional


INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – On Thursday, May 18 the NCAA announced the DI men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championship selections for the 2023 preliminary meets. 

Virginia Tech declared 33 athletes will compete at the East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. from May 24 – 27. The four-day qualifying meet will be hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium. 

The top 48 declared student-athletes are accepted into the preliminary competitions for each individual event. The top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the preliminary competitions for each relay event. Combined events do not attend the preliminary meets. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the championships. 

Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Round sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas.
