Geist’s Dominance Earns Him Pac-12 Field Athlete of the Year Honors

TUCSON, Ariz. – Arizona Track and Field senior Jordan Geist was named the Pac-12 Men’s Field Athlete of the Year, as announced by the conference on Friday. Geist has had a dominant outdoor season competing in both the shot put and hammer throw. At the Pac-12 Championships last weekend, Geist won both events, earning his fifth and sixth Pac-12 Titles.

Geist’s six Pac-12 titles are tied for the most ever in conference history. Additionally, with his shot put victory at the championships, Geist earned his fourth title in the event, which is the most ever by a man in Pac-12 history. At the conference championships, he became just the second man and fourth person overall to win Pac-12 titles in the three throwing events of the shot put, discus, and hammer throw over the course of his collegiate career. His winning mark in the hammer throw of 73.82m (242-2) was the best in the event at the conference championships since 1996. Furthermore, Geist ranks fifth all-time in Pac-12 history in the shot put and sixth all-time in the hammer throw. Geist is now a three-time Pac-12 Men’s Field Athlete of the Year (2023, 2021, 2019) and was also named the 2018 Pac-12 Freshman of the Year. All of these accomplishments have helped him become one of the most decorated throwers in Pac-12 history.

He would then go on to break that record a couple of weeks later at the Jim Click Shootout in Tucson with a heave of 74.14m (243-3). He has three hammer throw victories on the year (including the Pac-12 Championships), along with another second and third place finish as well.

What’s even more impressive is that the hammer throw is Geist’s secondary event, with the shot put being his primary. His victory at the Pac-12 Championships kept him undefeated on the season, as he has not lost the event to another collegiate thrower in the four meets he’s competed in the event at. Before the conference championship weekend, Geist traveled back to his home state to…
