UT Qualifies 41 Entries For NCAA East Preliminary Rounds


KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee track & field will send 31 athletes to Jacksonville, Florida, next week for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. Final declarations were released on Thursday for the four-day meet, hosted May 24-27 at the University of North Florida’s Hodges Stadium.
 
Under the direction of first-year head coach Duane Ross, Tennessee qualified 29 individuals and four relay teams totaling 41 entries at the regional competition. The top 12 finishers in each event will advance to the NCAA National Championships, which will be held June 7-10 at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
 
Tennessee’s group in Jacksonville will feature 19 top-12 seeds, highlighted by graduate student and reigning SEC Champion Devon Brooks who owns the East Region’s top mark in the men’s 110-meter hurdles at 13.26. Lady Vol fifth-year senior Charisma Taylor stands out on the women’s side with her name entered in four events: 100-meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and the 4×100-meter relay.

Tennessee’s stint at the 2023 NCAA East prelims will begin Wednesday, May 24 at 6 p.m. with five athletes competing in the men’s 110-meter hurdles first round. The full meet schedule can be viewed and downloaded at this link.
