Four Terps Qualify for NCAA First Round


COLLEGE PARK, MD – The Maryland Track and Field team will have four-student athletes competing at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field East First Round in Jacksonville, Florida starting on Wednesday, May 24th.
 
Kayla Woods (long jump), Jayla Bynum (shot put), Kayla Thorpe (javelin), and Jeff Kline (shot put) all qualified by finishing the season ranked in the top 48 for their events in the region.
 
Woods, a transfer from Richmond, has had a ton of success with the Terps, jumping into the record books at #4 all-time in the long jump, with a jump of 6.23m
 
Jayla Bynum continued her strong showings on the shot put, throwing 15.62m at the Penn Relays, which moved her up #6 all-time.
 
Kayla Thorpe broke the school record twice in the javelin this outdoor season, with the second coming at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, where here throw of 48.38m was good for a sixth-place finish as well.
 
Jeff Kline climbed the shot-put record books again this spring, throwing 19.11m at the UVA Challenge in April, which sprung him into the #2 spot in the Maryland record books.
 
The four Terps will be looking to qualify for the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, which will start on June 7th.
