Track and Field Matches Record NCAA Regional Qualifiers


PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Rutgers track and field matched its program record with 19 Scarlet Knights qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary Round beginning on Wednesday, May 24 through Saturday, May 27 at Jax Track at Hodges Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
 
“We’re excited to get down there and compete,” said Bobby Farrell, director of track & field and cross country. “This is survive and advance mode, one day at a time and they’re ready. Thirteen of the student-athletes competing this week are returning next year so the future is bright.”
 
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a solid performance at the 2023 Big Ten Outdoor Championships, earning 19 podium finishes which nearly doubled the previous record of 11 from a year ago. The women’s side also posted its highest scoring output as the men and women combined for a gold, silver and two school records.
 
Chloe Timberg successfully defended her Big Ten title in the pole vault and looks to qualify for her second-straight NCAA Championship. In the other field events on the women’s side, the Scarlet Knights will have representation in the shot put (Jasmine Van Note), javelin (Alianna Eucker) and long jump (Celine Brown).
 
A trio of school record holders will compete on the track with Dennisha Page in the 100 and 200-meter, Kassidy Johnson in the 800-meter and Alex Carlson in the 1,500-meter. Icisys Sadler rounds out the group with her participation in the 100-meter hurdles.  
 
Sincere Robinson, a silver medalist in the long jump at the Big Ten Championships, will compete in multiple events, including long jump, high jump and 4×100-meter relay. Also competing in the long jump is Jabari Higgs-Salaam, while Konstantinos Bouzakis and Kyle Lipscomb will appear in the discus. Lipscomb will also look to qualify in the hammer. The Scarlet Knights will have representatives in the javelin with Steve Coponi and Joshua Mather.
 
Nadale Buntin, the school record holder in the 100-meter will also appear in multiple events, competing in the 100, 200 and 4×100-meter relay. Also on the track for the men’s team will be William Hare in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Christopher Serrao in both the 110 and 400-meter hurdles. The 4×100-meter relay group will also include Joshua Babe along with Buntin, Serrao and Robinson.
