Bruins in Sacramento for NCAA West Regional Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – UCLA Track and Field heads upstate to compete in the 2023 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Regional from May 24-27. The meet will be hosted by Sacramento State University and the Sacramento Sports Commission at Hornet Stadium.

UCLA posts 19 entries on the men’s side, and the Bruins will add 23 entries in the women’s events. Men and women will alternate days in competition; the men will compete Wednesday and Friday, and women will compete Thursday and Saturday.

The Bruins boast five entries in the men’s 400m dash. The quartet of Antoni Nortje, Willington Wright, Ismail Turner and Cameron Reynolds combined for the new outdoor school record in the 4x400m relay (2:59.25) at the 2023 Texas Relays; UCLA is the fastest entry in the 1600 meter relay heading into their competition Friday.

UCLA will see six throwers on each the men’s and women’s sides compete at the regional meet. Mayyi Mahama boasts a hammer throw mark of 68.38m (224-04), which sits second all-time for the Bruins in outdoor competition and third in the West Region. Federica Botter, who has broken UCLA’s outdoor javelin throw record four times, also ranks as the third-best mark in the West Region (57.81m, 189-09). Both Mahama and Botter set these marks at the 2023 Pac-12 Track and Field Championships in mid-May.
