NCAA Journey Begins in Sacramento

The Nebraska track and field team will have 56 entries competing at the NCAA West First Round this week at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento, Calif.

The four-day regional meet will have the men compete on Wednesday and Friday, while the women will compete on Thursday and Saturday. Competition begins at Noon CT on Wednesday and Thursday and 3 p.m. CT on Friday and Saturday.

The Huskers’ 56 entries at the regional meet are the most for the program since 2010. The NU men earned 29 regional bids, while the women collected 27.

Athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective events earned berths into the NCAA West First Round, as well as the 24 best relay times. The top 12 finishers in each event at the NCAA West First Round will move on to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Austin, Texas on June 7-10. The decathlon and heptathlon are not contested at the regional meet, as the top 24 scores nationally during the season automatically qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Till Steinforth ranks fourth in the nation (8,064 points) and has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
