Track & Field Heads to Jacksonville for NCAA East Preliminary Round


JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Michigan State track & field heads to Jacksonville, Florida, this week to compete in the NCAA East Preliminary Round. Held on the campus of the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium, 12 Spartans will look to punch their tickets to next month’s NCAA Outdoor Championships.

The meet will run May 24-27 with a stream of each day available on ESPN+. Live results are available on MSUSpartans.com.

6:30 p.m. – Men’s 1500m (First Round) – John Petruno

6:30 p.m. – Men’s Pole Vault – Trevor Stephenson

7:25 p.m. – Men’s 400m (First Round) – Noah Sage

8:20 p.m. – Men’s 400m Hurdles (First Round) – Kendel Hammock

9:10 p.m. – Men’s 10,000m – CarLee Stimpfel

Thursday, May 25

Friday, May 26

5:15 p.m. – Men’s 1500m (Quarterfinals) – John Petruno

6:50 p.m. – Men’s 400m (Quarterfinals) – Noah Sage

7:25 p.m. – Men’s 400m Hurdles (Quarterfinals) – Kendel Hammock

Saturday, May 27

5:15 p.m. – Women’s 1500m (Quarterfinals) – Lauren Freeland, Katie Osika

5:40 p.m. – Women’s 3000m Steeplechase – Kate Stewart-Barnett

The NCAA East Preliminary Round will send the top 12 performers in each event to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA West Preliminary Round will also send its top 12 finishers in each event to the NCAA Championships, held on the campus of Sacramento State University. 

Seven Spartans will make their first NCAA East Preliminary Round appearance, while five, including two true freshmen, will make their first appearances. Graduate student Trevor Stephenson will look to qualify for his third-straight NCAA Outdoor Championships in the pole vault, while graduate student John Petruno is looking to make his second-straight trip in the 1500m. The remaining 10 Spartans will look to qualify for their first NCAA Division I Outdoor Championships, as graduate student CarLee Stimpfel was a seven-time DII All-American at Saginaw Valley State.

Senior decathletes Heath Baldwin and Ryan Talbot have punched their tickets to the NCAA Championships as two of the top 24 performers in the NCAA in the event.
