Joycey Punches Ticket To Austin On Day 1 Of NCAA Track Regional


JACKSONVILLE, FLA.—For the second year in a row, University of North Carolina senior James Joycey is headed to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the hammer throw.

Joycey, who finished 15th at the 2022 NCAA Championships with a throw of 221-2, became the first Tar Heel in 2023 to qualify for a trip to Nationals in Austin, Texas with an effort of xxxxxxxxx.

 

Later on Wednesday, a pair of Tar Heel men advanced to Friday’s quarterfinal round in the 1,500-meter run. Jesse Hunt took second place in his heat in 3:44.61, placing second overall. Meanwhile, Ethan Strand won his first-round heat in a time of 3:45.87 to place 14th overall.

Craig Saddler II moved on to Friday’s quarterfinals in the men’s 400-meter hurdles, finishing sixth in the first round in 50.31.
