JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Asia Poe punched her ticket to Austin, Texas, and the NCAA Outdoor National Championships on Thursday at the Visit Jax Track at Hodges Stadium, while Kamaya Debose-Epps earned her spot in a pair of quarterfinal events on Saturday.
Poe stole the show for the Bulldogs on Thursday in the long jump. The junior from Madison, Miss., tied her personal best with a jump of 6.25m (20’6.25″). The jump that propelled Poe to Austin came in the second of three attempts and was good enough to win her flight. Poe joins Cameron Crump to advance to Austin in the long jump.
Kamaya Debose-Epps did her thing in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races. Debose-Epps, a graduate from North Carolina, advanced to Saturday’s quarterfinals in both events. In the 100m, Debose-Epps advanced with her third-place finish and a season-best time of 11.25. In the 200m, she finished fourth in her heat, but her time of 23.00 was good enough for her to advance to Saturday.
