Bulldogs Continue to Punch Tickets To The Track And Field Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Two more individual Mississippi State track and field student-athletes and the 4x400m relay team all punched their tickets to Austin, Texas, and the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.

Tony Jones and Navasky Anderson joined a growing list of individual Dawgs that will compete for national championships to go along with the 4x400m relay team of Anthony Brodie, Sema’J Daniels, Lee Eppie and Doval Simmonds.

Jones started the day for Mississippi State on Friday in the high jump. Needing just two jumps to earn his spot in the outdoor championship, Jones started things at 2.09m before reaching his final height of 2.14m (7″ .25″). His jump height of 2.14m was good enough to tie for the event lead. Jones will be making his second career championships event, first at Mississippi State. He finished 19th in his last outdoor appearance back in 2022.

Anderson is returning to the outdoor championships for the second-straight season in the 800-meter race. Anderson finished second in his heat on Friday, third overall, with a time of 1:49.43 to earn his spot in the championship. Last season Anderson finished second in the 800m at the championship event in Eugene, Ore.

In the night’s final event, the Bulldogs’ 4x400m relay team did just enough to earn their spot in the championships event. The relay team finished fifth in their heat with a time of 3:08.37. After waiting for the other two heats to finish to learn their fate, the Bulldogs had the 11th-best time in the field and were one of the 12 teams advancing to Texas.
