JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Clemson men’s track and field team had nine total entries in NCAA quarterfinals on a windy Friday in Jacksonville, and five of them advanced to Nationals. Both relay teams as well as Giano Roberts, Cameron Rose and Tarees Rhoden punched their tickets to Austin. Including Ethan Cocco, who qualified for Nationals in the javelin throw on Wednesday, Clemson will have six entries in this season’s National Championship Meet.
The women’s quarterfinal round will begin for Clemson on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the discus throw. The Tigers will have five total entries on Saturday including the discus, both relays, the 800 meter run and the 400 meter hurdles.
FRIDAY HIGHLIGHTS
- The 4×100 meter relay team of Giano Roberts, Cameron Rose, Guinove Joanus and Wanya McCoy advanced to nationals by finishing second in their heat with a time of 39.36 seconds.
- Giano Roberts qualified for Nationals in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 13.49. Last season, he finished fourth at outdoor nationals in the event. As a member of the 4×100 meter relay as well, he will compete in two events in Austin.
- Tarees Rhoden earned a spot at Nationals in the 800 meter run. He finished second in his heat with a time of 1:49.70.
- Cameron Rose advanced to Nationals with a 20.35 in the 200 meter dash. He also qualified as a member of the 4×100 and 4×400 meter relays, so he will compete in three events in Austin.
- The 4×400 meter relay team of Tarees Rhoden, D’Andre Anderson, Cameron Rose and Aman Thornton qualified for Nationals with a time of 3:07.43.
THURSDAY HIGHLIGHTS
- Marie Forbes advanced to Nationals in the hammer throw with a mark of 64.47 meters. That was good for seventh in the field of 48.
- Danielle Sloley threw an outdoor personal best 16.57 meters in the shot put. That mark is No. 3 in school history and was No. 15 in the field.
- Brynne Sumner advanced to the quarterfinals in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:06.63. That time was third in her heat and earned her automatic qualification.
- Lashanna Graham ran a 57.70 in the 400 meter hurdles to advance to quarterfinals. Her time was 10th best in the field of 48.
WEDNESDAY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ethan Cocco shattered his personal best by five meters to set the school record in the javelin throw with a mark of 70.64 meters.
