Hokies go four for four in the women’s pole vault

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Virginia Tech women’s track and field team showed its strength on day two of the NCAA East Regional in Jacksonville, Florida qualifying six athletes to Nationals.
 
The women’s pole vault squad dominated the field as a team with Kenna Stimmel, Julia Fixsen, Hayley Horvath, and Journey Gurley advancing to Austin, Texas. Stimmel, Fixsen, and Horvath placed fifth, sixth, and seventh clearing 13’10” (4.22m), respectively. Gurley finished eighth with a height of 13′ 6.25″ (4.12m).

Barbora Stejfova started the day off for the Hokies punching her ticket to nationals with a personal-best throw of 202′ 11″ (61.85m) in the hammer event.

 

Essence Henderson qualified for her first outdoor nationals in shot put placing ninth at the prelims putting 54′ 9.50″ (16.70m). Henderson will compete in the discus on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.

 

On the track, Lindsey Butler and Star Price qualified the 800m quarterfinals finishing first (2:04.83) and second (2:07.48) in their heats. The Hokies duo will compete again in the 800m on Saturday at 7:05pm. Top 12 finishers will move on to Austin.

 

Barbora Malikova advances to the 400m quarterfinal seeded 14^th with a first round time of  52.96.
