Men's 4x400 Relay Falls A Fraction Short Of Nationals


SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Colorado track & field team made one last strong effort to advance a men’s event to the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Championships, but fell just a fraction of a second short at the NCAA West Preliminaries Friday. 
 
The men’s 4×400 meter relay quartet of Tyler Williams, Ian Gilmore, Garrett Nelson and James Milholen clocked a time of 3:05.83 in the quarterfinals, finishing fourth in the first heat and 13th overall. However only 12 teams move on to the NCAA Championship in and Buffaloes were edged by TCU for the final spot by 0.63 seconds.
 
Milholen, the anchor leg in the 4×400, also ran solo in the quarterfinals of the 400 meters, finishing in 23rd place at 47.07.
 
Charlie Sweeney placed 25th among a field of 48 in the men’s 5k semifinal ending with a time of 13.55.57.
 
Caleb Niednagel represented the Buffaloes in the quarterfinals of the 3000-meter steeplechase, clocking a time of 9:24.38 to finish 47th overall.
 
The final day of competition begins Saturday with Allie Routledge competing in the women’s high jump at 3:30 p.m. MT.
