The excitement over performances at the recent CT conference championships has set the stage for the athletes, coaches, and fans as they make their final preparations for the 2023 CIAC Class Championships competition that starts on Tuesday, May 30th with Class M in the morning and Class S in the afternoon at Veterans’ Stadium at Willow Brook Park in New Britain. 

The competition continues at Veterans’ Stadium on Wednesday, May 31st with Class LL in the morning meet followed by the Class L championships in the afternoon. The championship competition concludes with Class MM on Thursday June 1st at Willow Brook Park. 

The morning meets start at 10:00am for field events and 10:30am for running events. The two afternoon meets will begin at 4:00pm for field events and 4:30pm for running events. The Class M meet on Thursday begins at 3:00pm for field and 3:30 for track events. Athletes will compete for individual and team honors as well as for the opportunity to qualify for the CIAC State Open Championship on Monday, June 5th at Willow Brook Park.

Order of Track Events:

(Girls then Boys unless noted otherwise)

  • 4x800m Relay
  • 4x100m Relay
  • Girls 100m Hurdles – Semi
  • Boys 110m Hurdles – Semi
  • Girls 100m Dash – Semi
  • Boys 100m Dash – Semi
  • 1600m Run
  • Boys 110m Hurdles – Final
  • Girls 100m Hurdles – Final
  • Boys 100m Dash – Final
  • Girls 100m Dash – Final
  • 400m Dash
  • 300m Hurdles
  • 800m Run
  • 200m Dash
  • 3200m Run
  • 4x400m Relay


Order of Field Events:

(Starting simultaneously. All field events in all State Championship Meets will now have a ten (10) minute check-out limit.

  • Girls Javelin followed by Boys Javelin
  • Boys Discus followed by Girls Discus
  • Girls Shot followed by Boys Shot
  • Girls High Jump followed by Boys High Jump
  • Boys Long Jump followed by Triple Jump
  • Girls Long Jump followed by Triple Jump
  • Girls Pole Vault and Boys Pole Vault (or simultaneously)

 

In the Class and Open Meets, competitors in the shot, discus, javelin, triple jump and long jump, the three (3) trials and three (3) finals will be observed. The top nine (9) advance to the final round where all jumps and throws will be measured.

Team and Event Awards

Teams compete for the Championship and runner-up trophies that will be awarded at each meet based on event scoring of 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.

Medals will be awarded for the first six (6) places in all events. All Class meet winners will be named as All-State.
